Fractures are broken bones. There are many different types of fractures seen in both children and adults. Childhood fractures are usually less complex and heal quicker than adult fractures. Fractures are usually caused by a trauma to the bone.
There will be swelling or bruising and pain in the injured area that gets worse when the area is moved or pressure is applied. There can be a loss of movement or function of the hand or wrist or deformity of the arm.
In some instances, fractures need to be surgically fixed. If the bone is well aligned, then it may be managed in a splint or cast. In both instances, you need to be seen as soon as possible by a health professional.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, book an appointment.
