Work related injuries occur in every type of workplace and have an impact not only those who are injured, but also on their families and friends. Hand therapy and upper limb rehabilitation can play an important role in improving your functional capacity and assist with your return to work or help you remain at work.
Our experienced therapists at Melbourne Hand Therapy can diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions including an injury or illness due to an incident (e.g. crush injuries, fractures, lacerations), and also those that develop over time (e.g. repetitive strain injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow).
We also provide education on health and safety, advice on activity modifications and recommendations for your return to work program. Our physiotherapists can provide Certificates of Capacity for our WorkCover patients. For our TAC patients, certificates can be written and supplied by all our therapists (both Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists).
Occasionally we may need to meet you at your workplace to assist in determining the tasks that are appropriate for you to perform following an injury. Our therapists can also communicate and work closely with other members of your healthcare team, such as your GP and Occupational Rehabilitation Provider to assist you with your return to work.
If you are approved for services from an Occupational Rehabilitation provider, you can find and choose your own independent provider to help you return to work. Your WorkSafe Agent will offer you a choice of at least three WorkSafe approved providers.
You must choose an Occupational Rehabilitation provider within 14 days of approval, otherwise WorkSafe will choose a provider on your behalf. If you have any queries or concerns regarding accessing occupational rehabilitation providers, please contact your WorkSafe agent to discuss.
If you have become injured at work, you need to seek treatment as soon as possible to reduce the risk of further injury and functional limitations. Melbourne Hand Therapy are experts in treating work-related injuries of the upper limb.
We also provide hand and upper limb rehabilitation services to patients after surgery, as a result of a work-related injury (e.g. carpal tunnel releases and fracture reductions). Our therapists will work with you and other members of your return to work team to help you get back to your meaningful activities, as early as possible.
