Hi. My name is Lucy. I am one the newest therapists here at Melbourne Hand Therapy. I’ve been on occupational therapist since 2019. I’m originally from Perth, however, I moved to Darwin and worked within the workers’ compensation system as a rehabilitation consultant. In this role I helped injured workers return to their jobs and provided them with support along the way. I then moved into hand therapy private practice in 2020 and has been working as a hand therapist since. I moved to Melbourne at the beginning of 2022 and continued working as a hand therapist across Melbourne.
I love being an OT as I love helping people return to doing the things they love whether that’s through different splints or brainstorming alternative ways to do a task. I love getting to know all my patients and it’s really rewarding getting to help them through their recovery and helping them to achieve a really great outcome following their injury.
I studied in Perth at Curtin University where I completed my Bachelor of Occupational Therapy with honors in 2019. During my studies I completed placements in IH care, pediatrics, and hand therapy which I all really enjoyed. I was lucky enough to be provided with the opportunity to complete my honours and within this I researched and worked on a thesis on impact of falls and hospitalization on adults. Since finishing university and working in hand therapy, I’ve completed several courses that are upper limb-specific to work towards my hand therapy accreditation.
I love working in a team with such experienced therapists who are always willing to help and answer any of my questions. Melbourne Hand Therapy is such a nice welcoming clinic so it’s a really enjoyable place to come to work everyday.
When I’m not at work I love to play hockey. I play in the premier league here in Melbourne for Camberwell, so I spend a lot of time at trainings and games. And as I’m quite new to Melbourne I also love just exploring and being a tourist and seeing everything that Melbourne has to offer.
