Bio

Robin graduated in 2013, from the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa. Following graduation Robin initially did a community service year at a small district hospital in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, however she ended up staying there for a total of three years. During this time, she completed a number of courses including a wheelchair seating course, ethical courses, dry needling course and a certificate in sports physiotherapy. This included 5 modules, theory and practical exams and a research assignment. The sports physiotherapy course took a year to complete and focused on assessing and treating sports people at various levels of competition.

Robin then secured a job in 2016 in a coastal town of the Eastern Cape of South Africa where for two years she focused on completing a certification in Orthopedic and Manual Therapy (OMT). This helped cement her knowledge in assessing and treating specific joints of the body, one of the modules purely focusing on shoulder conditions. OMT included five modules, theory exams, practical exams and a research assignment.

Moving back to Cape Town for the next 6 years, Robin then worked at an orthopedic practice working closely with surgeons who specialised in hand, shoulder, knee, ankle and hip surgery. This exposure to upper limb cases highlighted the importance of rehabilitation of the upper limb and also gave her the opportunity to become experienced with surgical cases of the hand and shoulder. Robin developed a special interest in managing the upper limb and found joy in seeing her patients’ pain-free and functional following hand and shoulder surgery.

Robin has recently moved to Melbourne and joined the MHT team. Her current goal is to become an accredited hand therapist and focus on the treatment of the upper limb which includes from the neck down to the finger tips.
