Introducing: Kimberley McCall

Name: Kimberley McCall

Company Role: Upper Limb Physiotherapist

What are your credentials/past experience?

I initially qualified in Scotland in 2011. I worked as a rotational physiotherapist in a hospital for 3 years building the foundations of my career working in various departments and wards. Over this time I developed an interest in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and decided to specialise in this area in 2014.

From there I worked in outpatient clinics in the NHS until moving to Melbourne, Australia in 2018.

In addition to my NHS work, I also worked for a number of years with sports teams in Scotland. I was the head physiotherapist with a soccer team for over 4 years and then worked with Scotland’s professional basketball team, Glasgow Rocks for 1 year, where I would provide assessment and treatment during training sessions and court side physiotherapy and first aid. This developed my skills in treating acute traumatic injuries and creating rehabilitation plans to allow athletes to return to sport.

Since moving to Melbourne, I have predominantly worked in private practice further developing my skills in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. I have always had an interest in treating the upper limb and this passion has developed further over the last 3 years where I have increased personal studying to reflect this through courses that focus on the upper limb.

I moved to Melbourne Hand Therapy in May 2021 due to my keen interest in treating the upper limb. This role allows me to work with clients treating an area of the body that I am truly interested in and passionate about.

Tell me what it is about being a physiotherapist that you love the most?

I love getting to know my clients. I am always keen to find out your interests and hobbies so that we can work together to create personalised goals.

Tell us about your studies

I studied BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. Qualifying with a first class honours degree in 2011.

Since qualifying as a physiotherapist I have completed multiple courses to develop my knowledge and skills in different areas. More recently I have completed courses that focus on the upper limb including a shoulder physiotherapy workshop by the ‘shoulder physio’ Jared Powell and I am currently completing an online shoulder course which continues to develop my speciality in this area.

I have also just completed the first year of a three year Masters in Advanced Practice. This Masters focuses on the development of advanced physiotherapy practice within four key areas- Clinical Practice, Facilitation of Learning, Leadership and Evidence, Research and Development. Completion of this course in 2023 will allow me to become a more developed and advanced practitioner both clinically and non-clinically.

What do you like about working with MHT?

I love working with an incredible team of highly skilled practitioners who are all so welcoming and assisting my professional development. I also really enjoy that MHT have a number of close relationships with surgeons as I really enjoy helping patients with their recovery following surgery.

What are the values that drive you?

I am a determined and highly motivated person who places high value on learning, growth and integrity. I also value kindness and compassion which, in my opinion, are essential qualities as a physiotherapist who is trusted to treat and care for people.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

When I am not at work I enjoy keeping active by going to the gym. I also wanted to learn something new this year so I have decided to take up golf lessons although I am very much in the early stages of my golfing career!!

If I am not doing something active then I can be found relaxing with a good book and a glass of wine 🙂
