We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Terri and are immensely grateful to our senior therapists, Haley, Emmeline, and Dominic, who are stepping in to cover some extra shifts at our Bundoora clinic to support Kate Rayner due to Terri’s unexpected arrival.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mums out there, and a special shoutout to the amazing women who may not have kids of their own but play a vital role in nurturing and shaping the younger generation,” said Haley Field.
In the spirit of Mother’s Day, we received some exciting news from our own Terri Stanley-Clarke, who welcomed her baby girl earlier than expected. With her schedule packed for the upcoming weeks, it seems her little one couldn’t wait to make her debut on this special day!
But don’t worry, our clinics are still up and running smoothly. You can still catch Haley at Deepdene, Ringwood East, and Blackburn; Emmeline at Blackburn, and Dominic, our Shoulder Guru, at Ringwood East.
Aussie Rules footy involves a mix of physical endurance, high-speed running, frequent changes of direction, jumping, sudden and forceful collisions, aggressive tackling, as well as kicking and ball-handling skills.
The nature of the game can result in fingers being pulled, jarred, kicked, and crushed by other players, when falling or when in contact with the hard leather ball.
A common finger injury that our therapists see in footy season is finger dislocation with or without a volar plate avulsion fracture.
This happens when the finger is bent too far backwards. If a joint dislocates once it is much more likely to pop out again and needs appropriate protection to allow it to heal strongly.
Our therapists can make a light weight thermoplastic splint which allows early active motion, helps with swelling and pain, and protects the healing fracture and volar plate. Our hand therapists will get players back on the field as soon as possible by helping them regain motion and strength and teaching correct buddy taping techniques on return.
Rotator cuff tendinopathy, shoulder instability and frozen shoulder are conditions frequently encountered in our clinical practice. Our very own physiotherapist, Dominic attended La Trobe Sport & Exercise Medicine Research Centre for a two day shoulder symposium. This covered the best practices and current research evidence for various shoulder conditions.
There was a lot of worthwhile discussion and take aways, which covered a wide range of topics including:
To find out more and receive a thorough shoulder assessment and treatment program, please book in with Dominic or Robin, our expert shoulder guru’s.
Dominic and Terri also attended a Radiology Course specifically designed for Physiotherapists. The course delved into the world of radiology and assisted Dominic and Terri to gain a deeper understanding of medical imaging techniques, interpreting X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans.
The course focused on integrating radiological knowledge into our private practice and allowing us to provide more comprehensive care and diagnostic solutions for our patients.

I was very happy with all aspects. I tried a few places to treat my tennis elbow, but this is by far the best. Terri was exceptional and provided a thorough assessment and plan for recovery, addressing all my concerns.

Jana was excellent. Very happy with my visit to Melbourne and therapy and they have my recommendation.

Everyone at Melbourne Hand Therapy has been kind and helpful (this includes the invaluable admin staff). Even when I’m melting down or feel entirely overwhelmed and hopeless, they have been kind and compassionate. I greatly appreciate that they’re more than willing to deal with complexity, my length of issues and work through solutions without any blame or judgement when I struggle to follow through. Definitely recommend.
